Committee Reports

⦁    Repeater Task Force / Technical Committee – Dan (KA7GPP)

⦁    It would be good to get the Microsoft people together to take equipment up to Cougar and make sure it works.  Then see Mike about getting a port out to the network.
⦁    Emergency Planning & Mobilization – Rowland (K7RWB)

⦁    Grant status: Tribe application — still waiting.  If we don’t get this one, we will try PSE or perhaps the GoFundMe option online.  We are asking for about $15,000.

⦁    Regional Network: Working with Jon Bromberg about creating another Net with a broader geography (Sammamish, Issaquah, Monroe, etc.) perhaps monthly or quarterly.  This would be separate from our weekly SnoVARC Net. This new net would allow us to get to know each other since we will all be impacted when something happens.  Tom will oversee this new net.

⦁    Education & Community Outreach – Bengt (K7ADD)  —  NOT PRESENT

⦁    Was not present to have a VE Session prior to the meeting.

⦁    Need date for upcoming Tech License class so that we can have sign up lists at upcoming events in August.

Old Business

⦁    The KE7GFZ Weekly Net (Thursdays, except club night, at 8 pm) is on our 441.825 MHz repeater, positive offset and tone of 103.5 MHz.

⦁    Carnation space – Rowland (K7RWB):  We are still waiting to get the guy moved so we can take over his current space. We don’t want to be pushy, but will try to stop by and casually see how it’s going.  This might spur some activity or at least give us the status.
New Business

⦁    Mike’s house painting – Rowland (K7RWB):  Great turn out on August 1st to finish our painting obligation.  So we now own the Cougar repeater free and clear.  We got this at a tremendous value of $2,000 when it is worth $15,000.  And now we only had to pay $1,000 because of the painting project just completed.  Thanks!

⦁    Volunteer Appreciation Ice Cream Social, Sunday August 16th from 5-8 p.m. at Tolt MacDonald Park in Carnation – Kathy (K7KJB):

⦁    Many thanks for all you do!! Volunteers are the heart, soul and lifeblood of the Carnation Duvall Citizen Corps. We would love to have you join us in giving back to you, and for the opportunity to meet other volunteers and their families. We will be having Ice Cream Sundaes, hot dogs and cold drinks. This one’s for YOU and your family so please join us! RSVP to ⦁    info@carnationduvallcitizencorps.org by August 9th.

⦁    CDCCC Board Meeting Report – Dan (KA7GPP):

⦁    National Night Out on Crime (see details in ‘Upcoming Events’ below) – There will be a booth and we could use 1-2 SnoVARC volunteers.  Gerard (KG7REV) said he would go.

⦁    “An Hour to Spare” – Earthquake Risk and Tips (see details in ‘Upcoming Events’ below).  This is a great opportunity that shouldn’t be missed.

⦁    Given our current balance, as a non-profit we need to spend some of this as appropriate. Some thoughts (including those from Ken K.) include: new batteries for repeaters (will test them soon), IRLP on Cougar, HF portable radio, fix existing club radios for club house or other uses, Battery system on Bell site with more capacity and true deep cycle, RF link from Bell site to Cougar, needs for the Carnation club house for furnishing and/or supplies (consider Jerry’s cabinet). The Leadership group should meet to prioritize these and any other thoughts that come from members.

⦁    Barb (K7XIT) announced that she wished to “retire” from the role of recruiting/coordinating members for the annual Duvall Days runs and requested a volunteer to step up for next year.  Although the club could just turn in a list of course marshal volunteers to the run committee, a coordinator who knows our members can better manage our crew to make sure individuals get the station assignments they prefer and can react to any last-minute changes.  If preferred, the volunteer could handle all coordination via email.  Anyone interested should contact Barb Powrie at ⦁    bpowrie@centurytel.net.
Meeting adjourned at 7:42 pm.

ELMER SESSION:   Survival Video (continued) – Rowland (K7RWB)  Video included a detail of the survival day pack, how to make a lean-to or pup tent quickly using a blue crinkly tarp and parachute line with a bed made from conifer boughs, how to make a hot fire for smoke during the day (using conifer boughs) and heat at night, as well as useful survival tips.

Respectfully submitted,
Lindy Friedlander
