Snoqualmie Valley Radio Club
Leadership Meeting
December 9th, 2025
I. Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order by Tom at 7:00 pm on Zoom.
In attendance:
Tom (WA7TBP) – President, Kirt (K7KDW) – Vice President, Lindy (KG7IFA) – Treasurer, Mike (KJ7JNG) – Secretary,
Rowland (K7RWB) – Officer
Review of the 2025 strengths and weaknesses of the club:
Strengths:
- Elmer Sessions – good feedback on soldering class and radio “fox hunts.”
- Annual Valley Camp attendance.
Weaknesses:
- Low attendance at face-to-face meetings.
- Low attendance on weekly net and Elmer net and Elmer classes.
- Slow growth rate of new members.
- No current member is willing to fill future Board President role.
Addressing Weaknesses:
- Low attendance to face-to-face meetings
- Leadership admits that COVID questioned the necessity of face-to-face meetings.
- Face-to-face meetings are no longer the first choice of membership.
- Leadership can encourage face-to-face meetings, but will need to include a virtual option.
- Low attendance on weekly net
- Leadership wants to increase the number of members who join the weekly net.
- The weekly “check-in” net is not a social net open for topics of discussion.
- The weekly net is basically a radio equipment check for the club repeaters and member’s equipment.
How to increase membership and interest in the club:
- Utilize the EYEWARN program to increase interest in the club and the club’s “mission.”
- SNOVARC membership drive should be centered around providing information during a disaster.
- Identify GMRS radio operators interested in Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Recovery.
- Contact GMRS FCC license holders and ask them to be part of the EYEWARN team.
Suggestions made by attendees:
- People do not have to be a member of any club to take part in EYEWARN. However, we would encourage them to join to take part in the training that will be offered and maybe pique their interest in obtaining a ham license someday.
- Elmer sessions
- EYEWARN Training
- Obtaining a GMRS license
- Upgrading GMRS license to an Amateur license
- How to properly use, hold, operate a radio
- How to increase Elmer training attendance:
- Should be held over ZOOM whenever possible
- Expand training to include EYEWARN introduction
- An increase in membership will result in more required Elmer sessions.
How often should we have an Executive Session like the one we had this evening?
Attendees agreed on a semiannual meeting to be scheduled in April and October.
Should we make any changes to the monthly Business Meeting schedule?
- Attendees: No change to the Business Meeting schedule.
- Some members wanted to have the Elmer session immediately after the Business meeting. No agreement was reached on this suggestion.
Action Items:
- Tom will continue to work on the 2026 SNOVARC Budget for the club.
- Mike will identify GMRS users in zip codes 98014 (Carnation), 98019 (Duvall) and 98024 (Fall River)
Before any contact is made with GMRS license holders regarding EYEWARN, Greg Bawden will need to approve any distribution of documentation regarding EYEWARN.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m
