ELMER SESSION for the WEDNESDAY September 3rd meeting at 6:30PM (Zoom ONLY, NEW link will be sent): Ed Fong WB6IQN will present on antennas. Ed is currently on the faculty of UC Santa Cruz- Silicon Valley and teaches RF Wireless Communications, Antenna Design, and I/O Design Fundamentals.  Plus, he is the inventor of the TBJ-1, DBJ-1, DBJ-2 and DBJ-UHF antennas, which are extremely popular among the ham and commercial communications community.

ELMER SESSION for the August 7th meeting at 6:30PM (at the Duvall Station 166): Paul Butzi will be presenting the “Parks on the Air (POTA)” program for international portable amateur radio operations that promote emergency awareness and encourages amateur radio operators to set up their stations in parks and other public lands to make radio contacts.

The June Elmer will focus on the preparation for Field Day, an annual amateur radio exercise occurring the fourth full weekend of June.  The goal of Field Day is to encourage emergency communications preparedness among amateur radio operators. 

Scott Honaker, N7SS, will present “Designing and building portable radio packages”. Scott’s background includes Microsoft, Radio Depot, Icom and Snohomish County Emergency Management. He is the past president and charter member of the Pacific NW VHF Society, current President of the Microsoft Amateur Radio Club (Microhams) and Chair of the Western Washington Amateur Relay Association (WWARA). Scott’s presentation will show how making your radio operate portably can have a number of advantages. We will look at criteria and options for designing and building portable radio kits, look at a number of styles and learn about sources of information and equipment. There will be some examples to look at and potentially borrow some ideas. If someone has a good example of their own, feel free to bring it and show it off.

It’s all about Go Kits!  Bring in your radio comms and personal go kits to share with each other.  We did this several years ago and we all learned a lot from each other. If you do not have either of these kits made up yet this will be a great place to learn. For those of you that usually join us with Zoom, how about attending in person and bring your go kits.  That would be great!  The more the merrier and more to learn.
