IV. Committee and Task Force Reports

Repeater Task Force:

Cougar Mountain Repeater – Ken’s reset switch was used a few times since our last meeting. New Cougar Mountain Repeater is in test mode at Tom’s home. Tom is waiting for Shawn to free up from work to replace the current repeater with the new repeater that is currently under test. Beware of large active hornets’ nest close to the radio building.

Myers Repeater – The club is planning to link Cougar and Myers together over IRLP. Ken said the internet is there, but we need to find someone who can utilize Linux coding to program the raspberry pie. The Trilogy Amateur Radio Club (TARC) is willing to pay for the new Raspberry Pi equipment.  Mike will contact Ken to see if we can get the project moving. Mike has identified a couple of people who are familiar with Linux and the Raspberry Pi equipment.

Carnation Repeater – No change. Working well.

Emergency Planning and Mobilization:

EYEWARN – Greg Bawdon has taken over leadership of the team. An updated power point presentation is still being worked on in preparation to show to other teams. A Groups.io account has been created. After the power point presentation has been created, the EYEWARN team will start to communicate with other clubs.

Education and Community Outreach:

Thursday Night Roundtable/Ham Development – No changes since last meeting. Everyone too busy with summer stuff to participate.

Equipment Inventory Status: Tom

Tom brought up that the club has many old transceivers. He suggested making the equipment available to club members for purchase. Tom will check with Lindy to see if the radio equipment has been fully depreciated to remain in compliance with tax regulations. The Red Cross building is mainly used for antenna storage. This equipment is very old, most likely it has been fully depreciated and can be given away to club members.

V. Old Business

Status of Club Shirts – Mike purchased a hat with the SNOVARC logo. Only Mike has purchased any SNOVARC merchandise from Duvall’s Dazzling Designs so far.

VI. New Business

Tom’s 5th Thursday of the month exercise – Seven people participated in a drill testing their skills on the What/Three/Words platform. Everyone did well when asked to find a location utilizing the three words that Tom announced. Some participants were challenged when Tom asked the participants to tell him what/three/words were assigned to a specific street intersection. Additionally, when providing what/three/words the clear pronunciation of the words is critical. Tom reminded everyone that using phonetics helps clarify the spelling of the words used in any messages. Tom is looking for ideas for the next 5th Thursday of the month exercise.

Roland working with his new neighborhood team on Emergency Preparedness. He is now part of the Providence Point Emergency Response Committee (PPERC). The PPERC is planning a full emergency drill on 8/15. The drill will include communications over FRS radios to Community Captains which will relay information to the EOC.

VII. Open Discussion

Paul Butzi (W7PFB) will be the guest speaker during the Elmer session on August 7th to discuss POTA and SOTA communications at Fire Station 66.

Rowland has scheduled Ed Fong to the guest speaker during the Elmer session on September 4th to discuss antennas. This will be a Zoom only meeting.

Eastside Fire & Rescue (EFR), can now control access to Station 66. EFR ID badges should work now. Access times and dates can be allowed/denied at Station 66. Old door keys don’t work. Rowland will find out if the old door keys should be turned in or destroyed.

The Tunnel Marathon will be attended by Tom. This year’s assignment will be in the Communications Van. Eastside Fire and Rescue are looking for more volunteers to assist during the tunnel marathon.

Tom said that the Tech Committee needs to hold a meeting now that Kostantin has joined the committee.

Meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m
