Meeting Minutes for January 3, 2019

Business Meeting called to order 6:15 p.m. Duvall Fire Station 45.

22 members and 5 guests present for business and meeting: Robin Amundson, Kevin Ayres, Rick Burns, Paul Butzi, Joe Carpenter, Nancy Carpenter, Robert Fanfant, Lindy Friedlander, Louis Giliberto, Markus Hansen, Victoria Hansen, Mike Jacob,  Ken Kosters, Ralph Lease, Mark McCLain, Jim Meyers, Irvina Mizell, Tom Needham, Robert Noonan and son, Barb Powrie, Chuck Powrie, Tim Schmidt, Shawn Somers, Kirt White, Rich Widdle, Chuck Woolfolk

Secretary Report—Robin, WA7CPA.  November and December Minutes were posted online. Approved by voice vote.

Treasurer Report—Lindy, KG7IFA, presented the current balance, $3,664 (subject to CDCCC board approval). Cash and checks were collected, along with new and renewal membership forms for 2019. It was noted again the club received an unexpected $1,000 Charles Schwab foundation donation.

Committee and Task Force Reports

Repeater task force—Shawn, K7ATA, reported installation of Internet on Cougar Mountain by Excel is scheduled for January. Both controllers have been updated. The old unit will be removed, marking the end of the repeater update.  Expect one more $57 expenditure to complete. Jim, W7ABD, reported a frayed extension cord at the Bell site was replaced, working better.

Emergency planning and mobilization task force—Joe, KI7EMB, announced 4 unannounced scramble exercises in 2019.  This means no date will be announced. It will be readiness test for our ability to respond at a moment’s notice. A task force meeting will be scheduled for January 17th to plan.

Education & community outreach task force—Irvina, W7IRM, announced our Technician class is scheduled at Duvall Fire Station April 20 and 27. We already have 2 students signed up. Irvina asked the 3 new ARRL Volunteer Examiners to gain some experience by volunteering at Lake Washington Ham Club before April. Kirt, K7KDW, reported on the new ham net he will be directing beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 10, prior to our usual 8 p.m. equipment check net. The initial format will be in a star configuration. Saturday training not planned at this point, but Jim, W7ABD, will accept calls for any help needed..

Carnation spacePaul, W7PFB, reported the antenna situation at Carnation City Hall is impossibly noisy. Recommended the HF antenna be taken down and we proceed with investigating Evac Hill as a place to install HF antenna with remote operation from City Hall and possible on site operations in an actual emergency.

Old BusinessTom asked Jim, W7ABD, and Rowland, W7RWB, to lead the March Elmer session on IC-7300.  UPDATE: Since Rob  Fanfant, N7QT is unable to present in February, he will present his captivating report on the Ducie DXpedition in the South Pacific in March.  The new Elmer for February is a lively discussion about circuits (See below schedule for more detail).

 New Business­—Tom announced nominations open for Secretary and Vice President. Robin, WA7CPA agreed to be on the slate for Secretary. She nominated Kirt, K7KDW, for the VP slate. There were no other volunteers or nominations. Tom encouraged everyone to think about it for additional nominations before a formal election at the February meeting.

2/7/2019 SnoVARC monthly meeting, Thursday, 7 p.m. Duvall Fire Station 45, UPDATED Elmer session: Simple circuits presentation, learning to read schematics, and hands-on play using Snap Circuits. 3/7/2019 SnoVARC monthly meeting, Thursday, 7 p.m. Duvall Fire Station 45, Elmer session is a presentation by Rob  Fanfant, N7QT on the Ducie DXpedition in the South Pacific.
