Monthly Meeting Minutes
September 2, 2025
I. Call to Order:
The meeting was called to order by Tom at 7:00 pm on Zoom.
Members in attendance were:
Tom (WA7TBP), Mike (KJ7JNG) – Secretary, Ken (W7ECK), Konstantin (KK7KO), Bob (KI7RMO)
II. Approval of Board Meeting Minutes
The meeting minutes from the meeting that occurred on August 5th, 2025 were approved.
III. Treasury Report and Financials
As of 8/5/25 there is $6,872.00 in the treasury. Up by $125 with Microsoft matching for Nester Portillo. Membership remains at 29.
IV. Committee and Task Force Reports
Repeater Task Force:
Cougar Mountain Repeater – New Cougar Mountain Repeater is in test mode at Tom’s home. Tom can hear some muffled discussions on the repeater. He cannot get in contact with the hams on the repeater. Could it be from another repeater? Could the weather be causing a temperature inversion and be creating a ducting of RF signals from a distant repeater that shares our frequency?
Myers Repeater – Ken and Ryan spent several hours installing and testing the new equipment to link the Myers repeater to the Cougar Mountain repeater. Ken believes that the controller at the Myers site is corrupted and a replacement is needed. Tom brought Ken a new controller and Ken will schedule with the site owner to revisit the site and make another attempt to link the repeaters after swapping out the controller with the new controller.
Carnation Repeater – The City of Carnation is moving out of the building and that means we need to move the Carnation repeater to a new location. Lindy has volunteered her home as the new location for the Carnation repeater. Instead of performing coverage tests before we move the repeater to Lindy’s house, Tom suggested, and everyone agreed it would just be better to move it to Lindy’s home and perform RF coverage tests and see if we need to make any adjustments after the move.
Emergency Planning and Mobilization:
EYEWARN – Official roll-out will take place in October. Bob (KI7RMO) will talk to Mike (KJ7JNG) about partnering with the Trilogy Amateur Radio Club and their GMRS membership. Bob explained that EYEWARN will start with a GMRS licensed base and encourage GMRS users to move up to a Tech license.
Education and Community Outreach:
Thursday Night Roundtable/Ham Development – Attendance has been very light due to the summer.
Equipment Inventory Status:
No change in inventory status. Most of the equipment is in the Lake Joy Fire Station. It would be to the club’s advantage that we offer the equipment for sale at the Lake Joy Fire Station.
V. Old Business
Status of Club Shirts – Mike purchased a hat with the SNOVARC logo. He showed the attendees the hat. The hat is of high quality and Mike is happy with the fit of the hat. Mike suggested that the club call sign (KE7GFZ) gets lost within the club logo because the logo must be made smaller to fit on the front of the hat. The hat that Mike purchased was a Flex Fit and a Lg-XLg size. The mountains were white and the “SnoVARC” lettering was in red. Mike suggested adding more colors to bring out the KE7GFZ call sign.
VI. New Business
Elmer session on Wednesday, 9/3 with Ed Fong starting at 6:30 pm on Zoom.
VII. Open Discussion
HF contact with Camp Murray in an emergency: HF frequency 3.985 LSB.
Meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m
